Testimonials

Wayne Woodman was tenor soloist for two concerts in January 2010 with Etatsorkestret in Copenhagen, Denmark. His impressive and natural tenor voice made a great impression on the public who applauded enthusiastically for an encore of Verdi’s Brindisi duet which Wayne Woodman performed together with soprano Julie Reumert.

About Wayne

Wayne Woodman – is a tenor who was born in Cape Town, South Africa but spent his childhood in Swakopmund, Namibia. There he got his first taste for music; he received violin tuition and sang in the local church. In his teen years he enrolled in South African College School, Cape Town, where he first began to realize his vocal potential. With encouragement from his family, Wayne engaged in vocal coaching for the first time. Alongside studying for Trinity College singing examinations he enjoyed performing in starring rolls in productions of musicals such as Grease, Oklahoma and Guys and Dolls.

His vocal training gave him the confidence to perform competitively, and so in 1999 and 2001 he claimed the Gold Diploma at the Cape Town Eisteddfod, as well as winning the Christopher Brown Award from 1998-2000.

Wayne moved to Ireland in 2003 where he started his studies toward a Bachelor of Music, under the tuition of renowned Irish tenor Emmanuel Lawler. He recently performed at the National Concert Hall’s ‘Enchanted Summer Evening’ and has appeared in Irish productions of La Boheme, The Magic Flute, Midas, and Cosi fan Tutti.

He has also done platform recitals in Ireland for the Dublin Fringe Festival, in South Africa for the Cape Town Baptist Association and Plumstead Methodist Church, in Namibia at the Walvis Bay Benefit, and in Denmark with the Etatsorkestret (whose protector is the Prince Henrik of Denmark).
